Hardly an inspiring candidate for a painting, going by the title. I was working in a workshop across the lane from this group of trees, turning chess pieces on a lathe and making fold up and wrap around boards. Having been a suburban youth from the outskirts of London, the trips to work out from Norwich into South Norfolk were something of a novelty. A number of paintings were made here, in the attached hay loft and occasionally outside. Most of the canvases are 4 foot square, which would have presented an interesting sight en plein air to any passers-by, not that there were many. A tractor did throw most of the contents of a muddy puddle over me once though, oil paint has a distinct advantage under such conditions.
